A Run for Liane - September 27, 2009

When Liane passed away in February 2003, friends and family were looking for a way to turn this terrible tragedy into something potentially positive. And so since September 2003, Liane’s family and friends have participated in the Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon's Charity Challenge to raise money for the Cancer Genetics Program at the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto. We have had team members competing in the Marathon, Half-Marathon, and the 5km Run/Walk.

The Charity Challenge gives professional runners and amateurs an opportunity to raise money for a good cause.  Runners (and walkers) who participate are encouraged to solicit donations to raise money for their preferred charity.

Jan Forrester (4th from left) and Sue Forrester (2nd from left) accept the 2008 award for the largest team in the Charity ChallengeOur team is made up of all types of people: runners, walkers, old, young, friends, family, and even strangers - so there is something for everyone! In fact in each year we have participated, our team has been more than 100 people strong.  The Guinness world record holder "joggler" Michal Kapral has also been a member of our team.

A Run for Liane won the Charity Challenge for the largest number of runners in 2003, 2004, 2007, and 2008. The Run has raised over $217,000 to support the Cancer Genetics Program at the Hospital for Sick Children through the Sick Kids Foundation - Liane Forrester Fund.

Through your generous support (by joining the team, making a donation, or something else) we can continue to support a wonderful cause, and Liane's memory can live on forever.
